We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Megan Young, PT, DPT to our New York office. Megan isn’t just a specialist; she’s a fervent advocate for treating the entire individual. Her expertise in pelvic floor rehabilitation and her unique journey from patient to provider make her a valuable addition to our team.
From the age of 4, Megan was entranced by Irish dancing. Her dedication saw her rise to the highest echelons of the sport by age 8, traveling across continents to compete at the national and world championships. Despite her talent, she constantly grappled with persistent pains. It was through physical therapy that she managed to cope with the strenuous demands of her passion.
In high school, Megan transitioned from dance to distance running, clinching three state titles and a national crown. Yet, her athletic journey wasn’t without hurdles. Within a year, she experienced a dramatic growth spurt, was diagnosed with ferritin deficiency, and began confronting chronic pelvic pain. With unwavering determination and support from her medical team, Megan not only reclaimed her cross country state title but also secured a scholarship to Boston College. There, she balanced her athletic pursuits with academics, earning a degree in biology.
Megan’s collegiate athletic journey, filled with its share of challenges, sowed the seeds of her passion for pelvic floor physical therapy. Facing a barrage of physical and mental strains, including the impact of RED-S (residual energy deficiency-syndrome), multiple stress fractures, and a quest to identify her chronic pain’s root cause (later diagnosed as endometriosis), she recognized the critical importance of holistic care.
Megan is a living testament to the difference comprehensive care can make. After feeling unheard for so long, she now emphasizes the profound impact of truly listening to patients and examining their complete story. Committed to shattering misconceptions about pelvic floor dysfunction, Megan hopes to expedite the path to proper care for many more individuals. Her qualifications from the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and an extensive array of clinical skills—including manual therapy, running gait analysis, concussion rehab, and more—speak to her dedication to the field.
Outside the clinic, Megan enjoys the vibrant life of the Upper East Side, where she resides with her boyfriend and dog. Whether it’s a relaxing day exploring Central Park or a beach day with her goddaughter, Megan ensures life is always dynamic. And yes, she can still dazzle with her Irish dance steps—though she reserves them for truly special moments!
