Physical therapists continuously strive to obtain skills and knowledge via continuing education courses and certifications. Usually, PTs choose these certification by determining how their patient population and community would be best served.  In Atlanta, our two physical therapist had recently participated in a tennis clinic which they highly enjoyed and wanted to enhance their skills in this area.

So soon after they sat for and passed the certification test to become Certified Tennis Performance Trainers (TPT) through the International Tennis Performance Association (iTPA). This designation provides tennis players, tennis coaches, employers, tennis clubs and others in the tennis and healthcare industries the knowledge that their colleagues have increased education in the areas needed to be able to train tennis players in an effective and efficient manner for success on the courts.

This certification requires study in fourteen competencies, including:

  • Strength and Conditioning Periodization and Planning,
  • Nutrition
  • Teaching and Communication
  • Athlete Wellness
  • Testing, Screening, and Assessment
  • Tennis-specific Endurance
  • Tennis Movement
  • Injury Prevention/Tennis Medicine
  • Fatigue and Recovery
  • Youth, Senior, and Female Training Considerations

Our PTs look forward to using these skills to provide the tennis-dominant metro-Atlanta area with top level with tennis-specific injury prevention and rehabilitation in order to maximize their performance on and off the court.
