As you probably already know, summer in Atlanta brings heat and humidity. But you don’t have to let that stop you from staying active!

This city is known for its social sports scene, as well as its expansive parks and recreational sites. Here is a list of the top four activities to keep you moving this summer!

1. Peachtree Road Race (PTRR)

This is the world’s largest 10k, hosted by the AJC and Atlanta Track Club. With over 60,000 runners heading from Lenox Mall to Piedmont Park, many include this race in their July 4th traditions! To learn more, check out the ATC’s PTRR website.

2. Atlanta Beltline

The ‘Beltline’ is a project to include over 20 miles of trail encompassing Atlanta, and currently has offshoots from Piedmont Park past Ponce City Market to Krog Street Market, trails near West End, and even an 8-mile trail that follows Ga-400 from Lenox Rd to Wieuca! Most of the completed areas are paved, and provide an excellent terrain for bikers, runners, and skateboarders alike! You can find a map of the beltline here.

3. Atlanta Sport and Social Club

Another local favorite is the Atlanta Sport and Social Club (ASSC). From kickball to beach volleyball, softball, and beyond, if you have an interest in recreational sports or social events around town, this is the community for you. Although most summer league sign-ups have ended, there are plenty of individual openings to join a team! You can check out all their events, leagues, and teams here.

4. Hiking Trails

One of Atlanta’s best-kept secrets is the number of hiking trails that are just a short drive away! Who knew the metro area had such scenery?! From beginner-friendly trails to more challenging hikes, you can find a comprehensive list of “60 hikes within 60 miles.”

Enjoy Atlanta outdoors this summer, but remember your sunscreen and water bottle! And as always, if you need a quick screening before increasing your physical activity, contact your SetPT office to schedule!
