This week, we’re putting the spotlight on physical therapist Sarah Bellman. Read on to learn more about Sarah’s passion for physical therapy and what led her to join our team.
Position: Physical Therapist, SetPT | PT, DPT | Virginia Location
Sarah first realized she wanted to enter the medical field in high school after she sustained a lacrosse injury that sidelined her from being able to play. Her sports injury caused Sarah to seek treatment from a physical therapist, and it was that connection that inspired Sarah to begin her pursuit towards becoming a physical therapist.
Originally from West Hartford, CT, Sarah earned her B.S. in both Exercise and Sport Science, as well as a degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While attending UNC, Sarah kept active with her love of sports as a member of their Club Gymnastics team. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2011.
Sarah specializes in orthopedics and sports medicine with a concentration in manual therapy. She believes it is important to assess and treat the whole person, not just the symptoms or injury. Sarah is dedicated to providing her patients with individualized care, with a focus on hands-on manual therapy techniques, functional movement patterns, and helping them return to sports. Having worked at several orthopedic clinics, it was incredibly important for Sarah to work in an environment that allows for a one-on-one, individualized, high level of care for her patients, which led her to join the SetPT team in 2019.
Sarah is certified in Functional Dry Needling and is also a Pose Method® Certified Running Technique Specialist. She is dedicated to teaching the skills and techniques of running to help patients avoid pain and injury and run more efficiently.
Outside of the clinic, Sarah enjoys traveling, hiking the Outer Banks with her Flat-Coated Retriever, Benny, and cheering on the Tar Heels.
