Every year, many of us step onto the golf course, hoping to hit the ball further and faster (or at least get it on the fairway).

Unfortunately, the latest advances in equipment cannot compensate for poor body mechanics when it comes to your golf swing.

If you’re the type of golfer that puts their clubs away now that it’s cold outside, you probably aren’t spending too much time improving your game. But if you want to improve your mechanics, there is no better time to begin training than this winter.

Improve Your Strength and Flexibility

Winter is the perfect time to build your strength and flexibility.

Pro golfers like Tiger Woods typically spend their offseason improving their physical conditioning. Losing weight and adding a bit of muscle will go a long way in helping you to prevent injury next time you are back out on the course.

Find an Indoor Driving Range

While you might be able to find a year-round golf course or outside driving range even if it is particularly cold outside, finding a nice, warm indoor driving range is one option you have if you live in a cold weather area.

Indoors may limit you from swinging full distance with your driver or fairway woods, but an indoor facility will also give you the chance to practice day or night depending on your schedule.

Swing a Weighted Club

Swinging a weighted club in your garage is another option for improving your game this winter.

Since a weighted club is usually a bit shorter than a normal club, you should be able to swing one in your garage this winter to avoid the harsher weather. Practicing with a weighted club a few minutes each day is a great way to build up strength in your wrists and your arms this offseason.

Consult with a Physical Therapist
